Zinc + Tallow Sunbutter is Verefina’s rich, mineral-forward approach to sun care. Beef tallow and monoi create its deeply moisturizing, butter-like base; 20% non-nano micronized zinc oxide provides its mineral-rich character; and beeswax and turmeric complete the purposeful formula.

Because the zinc oxide is finely micronized while remaining non-nano, it disperses smoothly and avoids the heavy, chalky cast associated with larger-particle zinc. Once thoroughly rubbed in, its softly tinted finish is minimal and nearly imperceptible on most skin tones.

Why each ingredient earns its place

Beef Tallow	The deeply nourishing foundation of Sunbutter. Its rich, cushiony emollience helps soften dry, weather-exposed skin and reinforce the moisture barrier.
Monoi Coconut Oil Infused with Tiaré Flowers	A traditional Polynesian preparation made by slowly infusing tiaré—also known as Tahitian gardenia—into coconut oil. Coconut oil’s naturally occurring fatty acids help replenish skin-surface lipids, reduce moisture loss, and leave skin soft and supple. The tiaré infusion contributes antioxidant botanical compounds, a centuries-old place in daily skin care, and the naturally lush tropical-floral aroma that gives Sunbutter its incredible signature scent.
20% Non-Nano Micronized Zinc Oxide	A mineral UV-filter ingredient, finely micronized—but still non-nano—so it disperses smoothly across the skin. This creates a smooth mineral veil with minimal visible cast, avoiding the heavy, chalky appearance associated with larger-particle zinc.
Beeswax	Adds structure and water-repellent character, helping the mineral-rich butter cling comfortably to skin through everyday moisture and outdoor activity.
Turmeric	Provides antioxidant-rich botanical care while giving Sunbutter its warm golden tint, helping soften the appearance of zinc’s naturally white finish.

Sunbutter is made with non-nano zinc oxide and without oxybenzone or octinoxate—two conventional UV filters restricted in Hawaii because of concerns about their effects on coral ecosystems. It is our more ocean-conscious approach to mineral sun care, created for people who care deeply about what goes on their skin and what washes into our waters.

How to use

Warm a generous amount between fingertips and massage evenly into exposed skin before going outdoors. Reapply frequently—especially after swimming, sweating, or toweling—and combine with shade, hats, and protective clothing during prolonged sun exposure.

About water resistance and SPF

Beeswax gives Sunbutter water-repellent character and helps it cling to skin. Because the finished formula has not undergone standardized testing to determine an SPF value, broad-spectrum performance, or 40- or 80-minute water resistance, we do not make those measured claims.
